Over years ago, there was no bridge in this area. When climbers want to reach the top of Carstensz Pyramid, they need to climb down the cliff and climb it up on the other side, which takes 30 minutes or over per climber. Others member need to wait, in worse condition, in cold weather and rain.

"Kandang (cage) Babi (pig)", that's how local climber in Indonesia named it. Not clear why they named it that way. The gap is only 15 meters wide and 20 meters deep. But on its base, it's not flat and covered with sand and small rock. Climber needs to walk with a rope attached.

In 1995, one of the biggest worldwide adventure company, install a rope to be used for tyrolean technique. It helps to reduce the duration needed for crossing this gap down to 15 minutes per climber. But the rope needs to be change quite often since the weather is quite extreme over there.

In 2015, Indonesian climbers install a 3 points wire bridge, so climber can walk to cross the gap easily. Nowadays, it takes only about 1-3 minutes for each person cross the gap. The wire gives a better tension as well as stabilization and it also has more durability in facing the weather condition.

Now, how to cross that bridge?

1. You need to attach both your cowstail on 2 wires upside (left and right) with carabineers and hold it with your hand.

2. Than you step gently on a wire downside. As you walk forward, move carabineers that you hold 1 by 1.

Let's join our expedition to Carstensz Pyramid to experience this bridge.
