OVERVIEW
Rantemario Peak - 3.478 m, is the highest peak on Sulawesi island, it's located in Latimojong Reserve, South Sulawesi Province. The trekking program for this mountain will take 5 days.
The most popular route to climb Rantemario is from the West ridge. From Makassar, we need to drive for about 6 hours to Baraka Village. We'll spend the night at villager’s house there.
From Baraka, we need to use a 4x4 car, to reach Karangan Village. It takes about 4-hours drive on hilly road with a beautiful view over Latimojong Mountains.
The Karangan Village lies right on the foot of the Rantemario Mountain. From there, we will start to walk through the coffee plantation until we enter the jungle at the begining of the ridge. Once we are on the ridge, it will be a steep hike all the way to the summit ridge. From this ridge, the summit is only a few more steps away.
The summit is quite wide. There is a monument made of concrete, as its marker. From here we can enjoy almost 360° magnificent view of Latimojong Mountains.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Makassar – Baraka
Our guide will pick you up at the airport or hotel. We need to start in the morning because the drive to Baraka will take about 6 hours. At Baraka, we will spend the night at homestay.
Day 2: Baraka -Karangan - Shelter 2
After breakfast, we will drive to Karangan Village by a 4x4 car that takes about 4 hours. From Karangan, we will start to walk to Shelter 2.
First, we will have a steep part trough a coffee plantation. After we enter the jungle, the path will go down slowly until we reach the river. Cross the river and we will arrive at Shelter 2. It takes about 3 hours walk to finish this day.
Day 3: Shelter 2 - Shelter 7
From Shelter 2, the route will be very steep, but the view is just magnificent. We will take about 7 hours to slowly walk to Shelter 7.
Day 4: Shelter 7 – Rantemario Summit - Karangan
We'll start early in the morning to watch the sun rises at the summit. It will take about 2 hours to reach the summit from our last camp. We will enjoy the scenery at the highest point of Celebes.
From the summit, we will go back down to Shelter 7 and have a breakfast there. After breakfast, we will continue walking all the way down to Karangan for about 7 hours. At Karangan, we will spend the night at villager’s house.
Day 5: Karangan - Baraka – Makassar
After breakfast, we will start driving back to Karangan, then continue to Makassar for about 12 hours. Overnight at hotel.
Day 6: We will transfer you to the airport, end of program.
