OVERVIEW
Gede Pangrango, located in West Java, is one of the oldest national park in Indonesia. This park's name is a combination of two volcanoes it hosts, Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango. Its natural characteristic and uniqueness make Gede Pangrango National Park a natural laboratory for biology researchers. In 1997, UNESCO declared that it is a part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
For trekkers, Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango are very popular. Not only because of the scenic beauty, Mount Gede Pangrango is also easy to access because its location that’s close from Bandung and Jakarta. Along the nice pathway, you will enjoy a very dense jungle, the crater and various natural highlights, such as the Blue Lake, Cibereum Waterfall, Cipanas Hot Spring, and Surya Kencana (large meadow below Mount Gede summit, covered with Edelweiss).
ITINERARY
Option 1 (2d 1n) Mt. Gede only
Day 1: Jakarta/ Bandung – Cibodas – Kandang Badak
Our guide will pick you up at Jakarta or Bandung. We need to start at 4.30 AM, because it takes about 3,5 hours drive to Cibodas. At Cibodas, we will prepare our stuffs for porters. We plan to start trekking at 9 o'clock.
We will follow a nice path through the beautiful jungle. We will walk slowly and enjoy the landscape. Our lunch will be at Cipanas Shelter. We will arrive at Kandang Badak Shelter in the afternoon and build a camp there.
Day 2: Kandang Badak – Mt Gede peak – Cibodas , Transfer to Jakarta/Bandung
We will start very early this morning. You will be woken up at 3:00 AM and have a hot coffee or tea with a toast as a small breakfast. We will start trekking around 3:30 AM all the way up and arrive at Geger Peak when sun rises. You will enjoy a magnificent landscape here. From there, the summit of Mount Gede is very close. We will continue our walk for another 30 minutes and finally stand on Gede Summit.
After one hour at enjoying the summit, we will trek back to Kandang Badak which take about one hour walk. There we will have our big breakfast and also lunch. After that, we will continue walking to Cibodas for about 2,5 hours and drive back to Jakarta/ Bandung.
Option 2 (3d 2n) Mt. Gede and Pangrango
Day 1: Jakarta/ Bandung – Cibodas – Kandang Badak
Our guide will pick you up at Jakarta or Bandung early at 4.30 AM. We will drive for about 3,5 hours to Cibodas. There we will prepare our stuffs for porters. We plan to start trekking at 9 o'clock.
Day 2: Kandang Badak – Pangrango Peak – Mt Gede peak – Surya Kencana
Our guide will wake you up at 3:00 AM to have a hot coffee or tea with toast as a small breakfast to start our day. We will start walking around 3:30 AM through a dense jungle and arrive at Pangrango Peak on sunrise (about 2,5 hours walk). After a view moment, we will walk back to our camp at Kandang Badak, have a big breakfast, and rest there until lunch time.
We will continue our walk for another 2,5 hours through a steep track until Geger Summit and take a small break there. Then we will continue our walk for about another 30 minutes and we finally stand at Gede Summit.
After a view moment at the summit, we will continue our walk down to the camp site at Surya Kencana. Surya Kencana is a huge savana with a small river in the middle. This savana covered with a lot of Edelweiss.
Day 3: Surya Kencana – Gunung Putri, Transfer to Jakarta/Bandung
We can start this day by doing summit attack to Gede Summit early morning so you can have a sunrise moment there, or we can just have an easy time at Surya Kencana to enjoy the mountain breeze. We will go down from the mountain at 10.00 AM and take another route - Gunung Putri Route, for about 3 hours walk.
From Gunung Putri village, we will transfer you back to Jakarta/ Bandung.
