MT. CEREMAI 3.078 M
OVERVIEW
Mount Ceremai (often mistakenly named "Ciremai") is a cone volcano in both Kuningan District and Majalengka District, West Java. This mountain is also a part of Ceremai Mountain National Park, which has an area of 15,000 hectares.
With a height of 3,078 m, Ceremai is the highest mountain in West Java. Uniquely, this volcano has a double crater. The 400 m diameter of western crater is cut off by an eastern crater which has a 600 m diameter. At an altitude of about 2,900 m on the southern slope, we can see a former point of eruption called Gowa Swallow. The name of Cereme or Ceremai was derived from the Sundanese word for Otaheite gooseberry.
The slope of Mt Ceremai is also the source of some small streams. Most of them are flowing northwest towards Majalengka to meet the large Cimanuk River which drains into the Java Sea.
