MT. KERINCI 3.805 M
OVERVIEW
Mount Kerinci (3,805 m) also known as Gunung Gadang, is the highest mountain in Sumatra, Indonesia's highest volcano, and the highest peak in Indonesia outside of Papua. The mountain is located in Jambi Province, bordering the province of West Sumatra.
Mount Kerinci is also the highest mountain among the Bukit Barisan Mountains. This mountain is surrounded by dense forest of Kerinci Seblat National Park which is the habitat of Sumatran tiger and Sumatran rhinoceros.
From the peak (named as Puncak Indrapura) we can see the beautiful scenery of Jambi, Padang, Bengkulu, and even the Indian Ocean. Mount Kerinci has a crater area of 400 x 120 meters and containing green-colored water.
Mount Kerinci is an active stratovolcano. Its last eruption was in 2009.
The beauty of a natural panorama full of flora and fauna is not only to be enjoyed but also very good for research and education activities.
Climbing to the top takes two days starting from Kersik Tuo.
The village of Kersik Tuo, Kayu Aro Subdistrict is at an altitude of 1.400m with a population of Java plantation workers, so the local language is Javanese.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival at Padang – Desa Kersik Tuo
We will meet in Padang City on the morning. Our guide will pick you up at the airport, or at your hotel. Then we will use a car to Kersik Tuo Village at Jambi for about 7 hours. We will spend the night at homestay.
Day 2 : Kersik Tuo - Jungle Gate - Shelter 3
After breakfast, we will go to National Park office to arrange our permission then continue to Pintu Rimba. From Pintu Rimba, we will start to walk to Shelter 3 which takes around 7 hours of walking. We will build a camp there. We chose Shelter 3 as a camp since its located close enough to the summit and had a quite big area with wonderful scene of the cities below.
Day 3: Shelter 3 - Kerinci Summit- Kersik Tuo
We will wake you up very early to have a small breakfast and a cup of coffee or tea. We will start to attack to the summit at 4 AM. We will trek through steep path for about 2 hours before we reach the summit. The scene from the summit is magnificent.
From the summit, we will go back to our camp in about 1 hour of walking. We will have "a real breakfast" before we continue our walk to Kersik Tuo. From Shelter 3 to Pintu Rimba will take around 5 hours walk, then we will use a pickup to go back to the village and spend the night at homestay.
Day 4: Kersik Tuo - Seven Mountains Lake - Kersik Tuo - Padang City
On the 5th day, we will trek to Seven Mountains Lake. First we will take a pickup to Plumpek, then start walking for about 2 hours. At the lake, we will enjoy a very popular landscape of Jambi province. You can rent a boat too. We will walk back to Kersik Tuo at 2:00 PM and arrive before dark. We will leave Kersik Tuo around 9 PM, and arrive at Padang in the next morning.
Day 5: Arrive at Padang
After we arrive in Padang, our guide will transfer you to the airport or hotel. End of program.
