CARSTENSZ PYRAMID 4.884 M
TREKKING

Due to security reasons, this trip is not available right now. We provide only helicopter option until further notice.

OVERVIEW

Carstensz Pyramid is the highest mountain in Indonesia and within Australasia and Oceania region. It's located on Papua Island and became one of the World Seven Summits.

Carstensz is well-known among mountaineers all around the world because of its challenging climb. Reaching its summit involves crossing tropical jungle and meadow in order to get to the base camp. The last part requires us to climb the cliff using a fixed rope for about 500 meters heights.

Since it is located in the middle of Papua island, the area is quite remote and difficult to access. Hence, it is necessary to fly to Sugapa first by chartered plane. From Sugapa, we will drive to Suanggama by 4x4 car.

From there, it's another 50 km walking part to Carstensz Summit. As the terrain is difficult, challenging, and will take many days to get through, it is necessary to hire some porters to ensure a smooth progressing over the expedition. Hence, this part of the journey is costly.

However, the landscape is magnificent. You will enjoy the diverse scenery along the way. We will walk through the jungle for one and a half day. Then we will walk through the hilly meadow, where we can enjoy a wide view of the stunning landscape.

Around Carstensz Pyramid, there are several other peaks which are interesting to climb, such as Ngga Pulu (4,864 m), Soemantri (4,870 m) and East Carstensz Peak (4.813 m). These three peaks are still covered by ice, which is annually dwindling.
